Nadir Maguet – Matteo Eydallin win the first freeride prize sponsored by La Sportiva. Now all eyes are already on the 20th edition…

TdR day 3. Firm favourites on the eve of the race, the two strongest teams lived up to expectations on the third and final day and were borne in triumph to the overall podium. 4 prestigious names will go down in the annals of this 19th edition: Michele Boscacci – Davide Magnini in the men’s race and Axelle Mollaret – Jennifer Fiechter in the women’s. While the Alpine soldiers preferred to cross the finish line with their friends and team-mates Matteo Eydallin – Nadir Maguet, the queens of the women’s competition chalked up their nth success with a 3 out of 3, which says all there is to say about their manifest superiority.

THE RACE:
Looking at the rankings, Michele Boscacci and Davide Magnini won with a 3’11” lead over Matteo Eydallin and Nadir Maguet. Third place went to Bon Mardion-Gachet with a 6’44” gap, Herrmann-Barazzuol were fourth with a gap of 15’43”, fifth Sévennec-Bonnet with an 18’ gap. In the women’s race the final classification reflects the stage podium, with Axelle Mollaret and Jennifer Fiechter coming first with an overall time of 9h15’21”, ahead of Alba De Silvestro and Katia Tomatis (9h21’38”), and Lorna Bonnel and Séverine Pont Combe who came third (9h56’30”).
Consecrating the strongest teams of this 19th edition was the classic Sunday stage, which started and finished in the picturesque hamlet of Planaval. The long line of athletes paraded through the cobbled streets before putting on their skis and summoning up all their reserves of energy in order to tackle a gruelling 2294m long course which took them up to the Château Blanc glacier (2850masl),  Flambeau Point (3320masl) and the peak of Mont Château Blanc (3422 masl).  From here, a race within a race with the best downhill skiers battling it out down the steep 1868m-long descent to the finishing line. The last test for the Freeride prize offered by La Sportiva; this year it went to Matteo Eydallin - Nadir Maguet who were the fastest on the last descent of each race stage.
Cheering on every single hero of this “Grande Course” were thousands of spectators who at first light, some with headlamps to take them as high up as possible, climbed the slopes of the Valgrisenche to experience a fantastic Sunday of sport.
