ARTICLE 1 – DATES
Corrado GEX Ski Club is organising an international ski touring event for teams of two under the name “16th Tour du Rutor Extrême by Millet”, to be held on March 30 and 31 and April 1 2012 as part of the La Grande Course 2011-2012 calendar.

ARTICLE 2 - ADMISSIONS AND CATEGORIES
The categories admitted are as follows:
Senior men's and women's (in teams of two) for athletes born between 1967 and 1991 (21 and over);
Master’s men’s and women’s (in teams of two) for athletes born in the year 1966 or earlier;
Junior men’s and women’s (in teams of two) for athletes born in the years 92 – 93 – 94;
Cadets men’s and women’s (in teams of two) for athletes born in the years 95 – 96 – 97 (turning 15 within the year);
Pairs of different ages and sexes are permitted.

ARTICLE 3 – MATERIALS
Each athlete will be aware of and directly responsible for all the materials he or she uses during the competition. At the time of registration, the athlete will guarantee the technical efficiency of his or her materials and their conformity to these regulations. For safety reasons, each individual athlete must carry his or her own materials throughout the various legs of the competition, with the exception of skis and climbing skins. These items may be carried by the athlete’s teammate during segments walked: skis must be anchored to the back of the backpack (not to the front, from shoulder strap to shoulder strap), using the safety strings provided. Once the competition is underway, materials may be replaced only if broken: they will be inspected at the nearest inspection station, which must promptly notify the organisers of the replacement. The organisers are not responsible for providing replacement materials in the event of breakage or damage.

ARTICLE 4 - INDIVIDUAL ITEMS REQUIRED FOR ALL CATEGORIES  
- a pair of ski touring skis:
minimum length 160 cm for men and 150 cm for the women’s and youth categories, with metal strips along at least 90% of their total length, minimum width 60 mm measured from the middle of the ski, which is normally the narrowest part. The manufacturer’s declared measurements shall be taken into consideration; the manufacturer accepts full liability for their accuracy;
- a pair of ski touring boots:
boots must be high enough to cover the ankles, must be ready for rapid, safe connection of crampons, and must be fitted with devices for closing the boot shell and top boot and a lock for the angle between the top boot and the boot shell. Adhesive tapes and bindings with elastic materials will not be considered valid, while laces and velcro will be considered valid. All closures and soles for ski touring boots sold by manufacturers will be considered approved under theegulations, unless they have been modified. Other types of soles and modified soles are admitted provide they meet the following requirements:
– the minimum outside surface of the ridges in contact with the ground must be 1 cm2;
– the sole must consist of rubbery material such as vibram or a similar material;
– the sole of each individual boot must be ridged and cover at least 75% of the surface;
–the minimum number of ridges per boot must be 23, including 15 in the front part and 8 on the heel;
– the minimum depth of the ridges must be 4 mm;
- a pair of bindings:
bindings must be intended for ski touring and may have safety straps, if the competitor wishes; they must permit locking of the back of the boot for downhill skiing and have safety release systems at the front and side, on the tip of the top and in the heel-piece;
- a pair of poles with a maximum diameter of no more than 25 mm, excluding padding: metal rings are not permitted;
- a thermal blanket measuring 180 x 200 cm;
- an avalanche transceiver meeting international standards, worn in contact with the body, functioning for reception and transmission throughout the duration of the competition. Competitors shall not wear a transmitter alone;
- snow shovel with handle: the mounted snow shovel with its handle and blade must have a minimum length of 40 cm, and the blade must measure at least 20x20 cm. It must not have been modified in any way. The name “snow shovel” is given by the manufacturer, who shall be held responsible for this name and its function;
- a snow probe with a minimum length of 240 cm and a minimum diameter of 10 mm, not modified in any way. The name “snow probe” is given by the manufacturer, who shall be held responsible for this name and its function;
- a backpack with shoulder straps, with 2 ski holder straps, big enough to contain all the materials required under the regulations;
- three climbing skins. Use and application of adhesive tape or similar materials to make the skins slippery is severely prohibited, for environmental reasons;
- garments for the upper part of the body: four layers, including three with long sleeves in the competitor’s size, and one windproof garment;
- garments for the lower part of the body: two layers, consisting of a pair of trousers or overalls in the competitor’s size, and a pair of windproof trousers in the same size;
- a helmet intended for mountain-climbing, rock-climbing or ski touring, UIAA or CE approved, which must be worn throughout the duration of the competition;
- a pair of gloves, which must be worn throughout the duration of the competition;
- a hat, headband or suit hood;
- a pair of glasses or a visor;
- a fourth thermal layer with long sleeves in the competitor’s size, with minimum padding of 100 g/m2;
- a UIAA approved harness, not modified;
- a pair of crampons with a minimum of 10 points and a minimum height of 3 cm, to be carried in the backpack with the points against each other, with safety straps fastened during use. Must not have been modified in any way.
- a lanyard certified for use in a UIAA approved “fixed-aid kit” under standard 128;
- two spring clips with automatic closure, type K – standard 121.
The organisers reserve the right to reject any component of the competitor’s equipment which may be considered defective or inappropriate. 
ARTICLE 5 - PENALTIES AND DISQUALIFICATIONS
In the event of failure to comply with these regulations, athletes may, if the organisers so decide, incur penalties or be disqualified at the time of preparation of the official ranking. Penalties consist of addition of one or more minutes to the actual competition time, for the reasons listed below:
-Athlete fails to comply with the regulations = 3 minutes to disqualification;
-Athlete fails to permit or perform inspection of materials = 3 minutes to disqualification;
-Missing skis, boots, helmet or avalanche transceiver = disqualification;
-Competitor does not pass a checkpoint = disqualification;
-Any action considered dangerous or capable of compromising the safety of the athletes, the organisers or the correct performance of the competition = disqualification;
-Replacement of two poles which have not been defined as broken = 1 to 5 minutes;
-Littering along the route = 3 minutes to disqualification;
-Abandoning the competition route = disqualification;
-Obligatory material found to be missing at checkpoint or finish line = 1 minute to disqualification;
-Athlete receives unauthorised external assistance = 1 minute to disqualification;
-Unsportsmanlike behaviour = 1 minute to disqualification;
-Change of gear outside the change area = 1 to 3 minutes;
-Team fails to exit gear change area together = 2 minutes to disqualification;
-Folding and cutting bib = 3 minutes;
-Failure to comply with any of these regulations = 1 minute to disqualification;
-Use of insulting or unsportsmanlike language directed at other athletes or the competition director = 5 minutes to disqualification.
All decisions made by the organisers will be final. In the case of faults involving penalties of 1 minute to disqualification, the entity of the penalty will be determined on the basis of the gravity of the fault and the context in which it was committed.

ARTICLE 6 – COMPLAINTS
Any complaints must be made to the organisers in writing within 15 minutes of publication of the official ranking.
All complaints must be accompanied by payment of € 50.00, which will not be refunded if the complaint is rejected.  
 

ARTICLE 7 – REGISTRATION
Competition registration implies complete acceptance of the regulations of La Grande Course.
REGISTRATION FEE
 SENIOR and MASTER
The registration fee in € 490.00 per team including the following for each athlete:

- organisation, safety and technical assistance services and refreshments along the competition route;
- 1 competition pack
- 2 days of full board and 1 day of half board;
- optional massage service;
- closing dinner.
The registration fee for teams which do not intend to use overnight accommodations and the massage service is € 240,00


 JUNIOR categories
The registration fee is € 340.00 per team including the following for each athlete:
- organisation, safety and technical assistance services and refreshments along the competition route;
- 1 competition pack;
- 2 days of full board and 1 day of half board;
- optional massage service;
- closing dinner.
The registration fee for teams which do not intend to use overnight accommodations and the massage service is € 150,00

 CADET categories
The registration fee is € 115.00 per team
including the following for each athlete:
-  organisation, safety and technical assistance services and refreshments along the competition route;
- 1 competition pack;
- 1 day half board;
- closing dinner.
The registration fee for teams which do not intend to stay overnight is € 50,00

The registration fee must obligatorily be paid by March 22 as follows:
- payment by credit card on the REGISTRATION page.


REGISTRATION METHODS
Registration forms with all required documentation must obligatorily be submitted by March 22, exclusively online on the ISCRIZIONE page, sending the following document to info@tourdurutor.com:

N.B. In view of the importance of the information provided at briefings, it is OBLIGATORY for at least one team member to attend.

ARTICLE 8 - COMPETITION ROUTE 
Changes may be made to the routes described below to suit snow and weather conditions:  


FIRST LEG– PLONTAZ  
For teams of two in the SENIOR and MASTER categories the competition route will be as follows:
start at 8:00 from Mondange – (Valgrisenche) (1654 m) up to Alpeggio Prariond (2038 m) on the orographic left, up to a level of 2656 m near the Truc de la Seyaz peak, downhill towards Praz Londzet (2187 m), uphill with fitted section to be walked, 210 m difference in elevation; continuing with skis on up to Sigaro (2745 m), downhill to Catin (2297 m), uphill to Casotto dei quattro denti (2629 m), with a section to be walked on the crest, downhill directly to the town of Mondange (1654 m).
Uphill difference in elevation + 1892 m  / Downhill difference in elevation - 1892
 

For teams of two in the JUNIOR categories the competition route will be as follows:
start at 9:00 from the wall of Beauregard dam (1770 m), uphill to Praz Londzet (2187 m), walking along fitted path with a 210 m difference in level, then continuing on skis to Sigaro (2745 m), downhill to the village of Catin (2297 m), uphill to Casotto dei quattro denti (2629 m), with a section on foot along the crest, downhill directly to the town of Mondange (1654 m).

Uphill difference in elevation +1307 m  / Downhill difference in elevation – 1423 m


SECOND LEG– ARP-VIELLE
For teams of two in the SENIOR and MASTER categories the competition route will be as follows:
8:00 departure from Mondange – (Valgrisenche) (1654 m) and uphill walk across the wall on Beauregard dam, through the village of Bonne (1819 m) to 2335 m at Grand-Coussa, downhill to the Arp-Vieille meadows (2100 m) , uphill to the peak of Mont Arp-Vieille (2963 m) walking along the crest to Forclaz-du-Bré (2835 m). Downhill on skis to 2465 m, uphill in the valley to the orographic left ending with a section on foot, fitted with ropes, to the base of Rutor glacier (Colle Glacier de Morion 3066 m), uphill on skis to the head of Rutor with a section on foot, fitted with ropes, up to the highest point on the competition route, 3486 m; downhill on the Château-Blanc glacier to the meadows of Plan-Petet (2282 m) and Orfeuille (1982 m) and then to the finish line in Planaval (1554 m).
Uphill difference in elevation +2565 m  / Downhill difference in elevation – 2665 m.

For teams of two in the JUNIOR categories the competition route will be as follows:
departure from Bonne (1819 m) to 2335 m at Grand-Coussa, downhill to the meadows of Arp-Vieille (2100 m), and from here uphill in the valley to the orographic left ending with a section on foot, fitted with ropes, to the base of Rutor glacier (Colle Glacier de Morion 3066 m), uphill on skis to the head of Rutor with a section on foot, fitted with ropes, up to the highest point on the competition route, 3486 m; downhill on the Château-Blanc glacier to the meadows of Plan-Petet (2282 m) and Orfeuille (1982 m) and then to the finish line in Planaval (1554 m).
Uphill difference in elevation +1902 m  / Downhill difference in elevation – 2167 m.
 

THIRD LEG – TOUR DU RUTOR
For teams of two in the SENIOR and MASTER categories the competition route will be as follows:
departure at 8:00 from the village of Planaval, in the municipality of Arvier (1554 m), uphill to the meadows of Orfeuille (1982 m) and Plan-Petet (2282 m) up to an elevation of 2863 m on the edges of the Château-Blanc glacier (inspection and refreshment point), then down to 2550 m (inspection point) and back up the valley to Colle di Planaval (3010 m). From Colle walk uphill with a difference in elevation of 200 metres then put on skis at Punta Flambeau inspection point (3320 m), removing skins, small downhill stretch, then continuing on foot, with skis on backpack, along the crest up to the point where the descent of the northeast slope begins down to Rutor glacier, continuing on to Colle dello Château-Blanc (3279 m) (inspection and refreshment point), then walking up to the peak of the same name (3422 m). The descent on the Château-Blanc glacier will take competitors back close to the meadows of Plan-Petet (2282 m) and Orfeuille (1982 m) then to the finish line in Planaval (1554 m).
Uphill difference in elevation + 2294 m.  /  Downhill difference in elevation - 2294 m

 

For teams of two in the CADET and JUNIOR categories the competition route will be as follows:
departure at 8:15 from Planaval in the municipality of Arvier (1554 m), uphill to the meadows of Orfeuille (1982 m) “NOT TIMED” where the actual start will take place at 9:30. Uphill to the meadows of Plan-Petet (2282 m) up to a level of 2863 m with a section to be walked along the edge of the Château Blanc glacier (inspection and refreshment point), downhill on the orographic right to the meadows of Orfeuille (1982 m), then walking uphill along a channel fitted with fixed ropes, putting skis back on and passing the inspection point and the meadows of upper Plan-Petet (2350 m) followed by the final descent to the finish line at Planaval (1554 m).
Uphill difference in elevation + 1249 m  / Downhill difference in elevation – 1677 m.

 

The organisers reserve the right to make any changes they may consider opportune to the route or to these regulations at any time with a view to preserving the participants’ safety and the regularity of the competition. Any changes to the route will be posted at the starting point and announced during the briefing held on the day before each leg.
For safety reasons, timed gates may be installed along all competition legs. The time at which the team passes the gate will be measured on the basis of the second team member’s time, even if the first member passes the gate within the deadline.

 

ARTICLE 9 - LIABILITY
In view of the nature of the competition, the organisers shall not be held liable for any accidents that may occur to participants or to third parties while the competition is underway.

- Tour du Rutor Trophy, consecutive three-year trophy for the top ranking team overall;
- Free Ride Trophy for the team which accomplishes one or more of the downhill stretches in the three legs of the Tour du Rutor Extrême in the fastest possible time;
- Remo Brédy Memorial Trophy, consecutive three-year trophy kindly presented by the Brédy family to the best team of athletes residing in Valle d’Aosta.
